About
Opal Hope & Healing

Opal Hope and Healing is a nonprofit outreach organization dedicated to empowering women who have survived trauma. Founded by Rachel, a survivor herself, our mission is to provide hope, healing, and self-reliance through education, community support, and transformative experiences. In addition to our core services, we hold quarterly projects that directly benefit women in need and collaborate with other nonprofits to strengthen community efforts. We also organize enriching activities that create opportunities for personal growth, connection, and empowerment. At Opal Hope and Healing, we believe every woman deserves the chance to rebuild, thrive, and step into a brighter future.

Our Plans for Growth

As we prepare for our grand opening, we are focused on growing our services throughout Utah. Our goal is to provide more women with the support, resources, and opportunities they need to heal, connect, and thrive.

To truly make this vision a reality, we need a dedicated space—a place where women can attend resilience classes, share a warm meal, and experience the power of community. A permanent facility would allow us to provide life-changing resources, from essential goods to job readiness programs, ensuring every woman who walks through our doors has the opportunity to rebuild her life. With the support of donors like you, we can create a lasting impact, much like organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, by offering a safe, welcoming space for those in need. Together, we can turn hope into action and transform lives.

RACHEL'S STORY

Growing up as an at-risk youth and latch-key kid, my school therapist requested my diagnosis of ADHD and learning disabilities to help address my behavioral disruptions in the classroom.

As a result, I participated in an ACE score test. An ACE test is a method provided for individuals to measure the trauma they have experienced. 67% of people usually have a score of at least 1. A person with an ACE score above 4 is at a much higher risk of substance abuse, risky behaviors, mental illness, homelessness, psychological and medical complications. 0.3% of the population have a score of 8 or more. I was the 4th generation female in my family to have an ACE score of 10. My future did not look bright.

Because of my unstable environment, I left home at 15. During the next 2 years, I made critical decisions that set me on a track for success. I was able to earn my diploma and become financially independent. I have learned how to create and maintain lasting relationships, and have spent hundreds of hours training in the field of mental health.

I have spent 16 years working as an emotional support counselor in homes and hospitals. In 2017, I founded a nonprofit organization, Opal Hope & Healing, to give back to my community. I know first-hand what it is like to struggle with suicidal thoughts on a regular basis.

Opal Hope and Healing provides our participants with the opportunity to see themselves as valuable, capable of success, and full of potential to change their future. Our goal is to help women realize that they are not alone—that their community sees them, supports them, and recognizes their courageous decision to change their lives.
